Montessori Classroom Layout

The Montessori classroom layout is simple and thoughtful. It is organized with designated learning areas that focus on each subject, such as sensorial, math, geography, etc. Montessori school materials used in the classroom are child-sized and accessible to the students.

Language

Language is perhaps the greatest creation of the human mind. In the Montessori classroom, we cultivate language through these areas: Spoken Language, Written Language, Reading, and Function of Words. Proper handwriting begins at age 3. Students are also phonetically learning sounds at this age while they begin reading.

Math & Science

Math affects our whole life. The human mind is by nature mathematical; it is a human tendency and process! The role of math in the environment is important because it orders the child’s mind. The function of biology is to arouse an interest in life and nature.

Geography

Practical Life

The Exercises of Practical Life reflect two important characteristics of the Montessori method. It reflects the love the child has for his/her environment in which he/she is a part of. It also reflects the child’s need to work and be engaged in purposeful activity.

Examples of Practical Life lessons: Dressing Frames (Snaps, Zippers, Tying), Washing, Cutting, Sweeping, Pouring, Planting, Folding, Polishing

Sensorial

The first of the child’s organs to begin functioning are the senses. Therefore, sensorial materials are one of the first to be introduced in order to help to refine the visual, auditory, tactile, gustatory, and stereognostic senses.

Examples of Sensorial Materials: Cylinder Blocks, Pink Tower, Brown Stair, Color Tablets, Geometry Cabinet, Binomial Cube, Trinomial Cube, Sound Box, Touch Boards, Fabrics, Touch Tablets, Smelling Bottles, Tasting Jars, Geometric Solids, Stereognostic Bags, Mystery Bags

Outdoor & Physical Activity

We feel strongly that children need to explore and enjoy nature. Our students have recess everyday! We believe it’s an important time for students to run, play, and enjoy the outdoors.

Whole Child Learning

The beauty of Montessori is that the child can always be challenged at any age. They work to their individual level, not limited by low standards set for their age. This is the time when your child is a sponge. They should be introduced to purposeful learning in a calm and loving environment, where respect and kindness are key!

Morning Schedule

7:30 - 8:50	Parents walk children into school upon arrival. Before school activities in the classroom.
8:50 - 9:00	Clean up and prepare for the school day.
9:00 - 9:30	School begins, Group Time: Math, Science, Geography, Language Art, Sensorial, and Practical Life lessons Introduced according to the weekly calendar.
9:30 - 12:00	Montessori Work Time Specialty Courses: Monday: Music Tuesday: Spanish/French Class Wednesday: Music/Level 3 Logical Reasoning Thursday: Spanish/Spelling/Level 3 Dance Friday: Spanish/Yoga

Afternoon Schedule

12:00 - 12:30	Recess
12:30 - 12:40	Wash hands and prepare for Lunch
12:40 - 1:10	Lunch
1:10 - 3:00	Montessori Work Time
2:30	Dismissal of 2:30 pm children
3:00 - 3:30	Afternoon Snack
3:30 - 5:00	Extended Day Activities: Recess, games, art projects, stories, exercise, yoga, etc.
5:10	Final pick-up time
5:15	School is closed. All children must be picked up by 5:15pm.
