At the end of October, our Elementary II students got to showcase the catapult designs that they've been working on for weeks. Some were modeled after medieval trebuchets and mangonels, some after ballistas, and some were completely unique designs. We began by learning about levers and their ability to do work, as well as the potential uses of tension, torsion, traction, and counterpoise systems. This fun, hands-on project got the kids acquainted with the process of realizing, testing, and revising their ideas.
Sienna said that "building the catapults was really fun," and Liam added, "I liked to see how good the other people's [designs] were."
